Tiffany Shlain

We see them everywhere. Walking down the street, in bars, in restaurants. Even in your own home, at the table, on sofas and in beds. Maybe you are one too: A phone zombie. It isn’t pretty. We have been taken over by our phones and the other screens in our lives. Tiffany Shlain says there is an ancient remedy for this. One day a week for the past ten years she and her family have simply unplugged. She calls it their technology shabbat. And she makes the case for it in her new book 24/6: The Power of Unplugging One Day a Week. Tiffany Shlain is no luddite. She’s the founder of the Webby awards, a filmmaker, and the co-founder of the International Academy of Digital Arts and Sciences.

On this episode Debbie talks to Tiffany Shlain about how cell phones have taken over our lives. “Do we want to live in a world where no one is ever present? I don’t think so.”
