Performance is a very important notion in architecture, not only for what we expect of ourselves and our peers, but what others expect of us. Architects are constantly performing for their clients and the public. The expectations and judgments of these groups profoundly affect architectural production. Thinking of our work as performance may be a way of responding to the expectations of non-architects while maintaining a sense of creative autonomy, as actors and musicians- artists who think of their work as performance- do.
